I am gonna be needing DMX control sometime in the near future, and I'm torn between getting a DMX controller, or a DMX lighting software program. Which would you guys say is better? Which is easier? More accurate? I also purchased Luminair for the iPad/iPhone but you still need a Mac and the setup is cumbersome. The DMXis box connects your DMX enabled lighting to a computer and the free program with it turns your computer into a light board. I saw the full potential of this program when I was working at a summer camp and we had spot lights, parcans, a moving light, and a light bar.
Hi Yes you should be able to control your lights from logic. If your lighting board(controller) has midi input.then you need to use a usb-midi interface to connect it to your computer.Once you've found the midi commands to control vairious lighting functions(ie go que 1 or flash bump button 6 etc)then put these commands into a logic midi track at the approiate position when the lights need to change. If your lighting board doesn't have a midi input and only got a DMX 512 input then life gets a bit more complicated.you will need a usb to DMX interface, now I've never used these so i don't know wether you can rout midi to a DMX converter program.
